Welcome to Bristow’s Inn!

Thank you for visiting Bristow's Inn! We really hope you enjoy your stay. On this page, we describe to you details that will hopefully make for a smoother and more enjoyable stay.

The check-in time is 3 pm and check-out time 11 am on the day of departure. Parking is in the back lot and the Guest Entrance is the second door down the drive, marked with the Welcome flag. The code to the guest door as well as your room should be messaged to you the day of your arrival. In case it is not, please contact Jodie (519-574-0565).

To unlock the outside door, put the code in the door. When the button flashes green, manually rotate the bolt clock-wise to open.

To ensure the safety for all of our guests, we do NOT allow third-party bookings. The person who pays for the room must be staying in the room.

PLEASE BE ADVISED that, due to the heritage nature of the home, the entire property is a non-smoking area and this is strictly enforced due to Fire Code and Insurance Regulations. This includes the porches, yards, and parking lot. We thank you in advance for respecting this rule. Alternative smoking area can be found across the street at the Cenotaph (war memorial) which has benches and garbage disposal.

Finding your way around the house

Walking into the dining room from the main door you will find a hallway to your left and a stairway leading downstairs to your right. Down the hallway you will find a guest kitchenette with a sink, microwave, and a toaster oven. The guest kitchenette is available 24 hours. Down the stairways leading to the basement there is a laundry room if needed. We ask that if you do laundry to refrain from doing so between the hours of 11pm to 8am as it may potentially disturb others.

The side yard is accessible via the dining room door. Please feel free to use it. The pergola area has light switches on one of the posts situated close to the fence. If you turn on the lights, we ask that you switch them off before coming in. We apologize if any of the lights do not work as they get damaged very easily by the weather.

There are two guest sitting areas. The first is located adjacent to the dining room and the second is located on the second floor. As well, there is a balcony located outside the second floor sitting area. We invite you to sit, chat, and enjoy the company of friends in these wonderful places. Please be mindful of other guests and to not be too noisy past 11pm.

Breakfast

The continental breakfast is served in the dining room around 8am and guests are invited to eat at their leisure until it is cleaned around 10:30am. Breakfast includes bread and local jams, syrup, and honey. As well, there is yogurt, gruit, granola, cereal, and oatmeal.

PLEASE NOTE: Bristow’s Inn is unable to cook or prepare any hot food on site due to Public Health regulations as the alterations needed to install an approved kitchen is not doable in a heritage home.

Where To Find Important Things

  1. First Aid Kit: In the corner of the dining room underneath the mini-fridge

  2. Thermostats: for the upstairs rooms, it is in the upper sitting area beside the bookcase and the “Moyer” room. For the downstairs rooms, it is on the wall to the right of the fireplace in the downstairs sitting area.

  3. Extra blankets: in the upper lobby at the end of the small library hallway

  4. Cutlery: in the top drawer of the dining room breakfast counter (the counter beneath the big mirror)

  5. Dishes: in the kitchenette in the original 1860 cupboards

  6. Fresh drinking water: a jug of water is provided in every room’s minifridge as well as a filtered water tap in the kitchenette (the skinnier tap)

  7. USB charging port: the digital clock beside each bed has a USB charging port

  8. Ceiling fan and light switches: both light and fan are operated via a wall switch near the room door. Small chains are attached to the ceiling fixture for individual control of lights and fans

How to set up the Firestick TV

Guests are welcome to access Netflix and Amazon Prime Video through our Firestick TV (*Unfortunately, we can not offer cable TV as it is not possible to install in a heritage home)

1. Press the power button on the bigger remote to turn the TV on/off.

2. With the bigger remote, select the input button and press OK on HDMI 1.

3. If the TV is not showing anything, the firestick may be turned off or you may have to return to step 2 and select HDMI 2. To turn the firestick on, press the power button on the fire stick remote.

4. Use the firestick remote to browse streaming services and the bigger TV remote to adjust the volume and turn off the TV.

Have any questions?

If you have not received your door code for your room, please text or call Jodie at (519)574-0565 or text James at (438)927-6230

If you need any assistance at the house, please text or call John at (519)505-4893.

I am available anytime; please do not hesitate to call or text for anything!

Please let us know if you need anything including local recommendations or if you are dissatisfied with anything and I will address it to the best of my abilities. However, please understand that certain flaws and imperfections in the home are due to its age of 165 years, having served as a tavern, a post office, an inn, a boarding house for farm workers, a brothel at one point, and a family home to nine children!

If you would like to receive our quarterly email with special getaway packages exclusively for previous guests, please leave your email in our guest book when you check out.

We hope you enjoy becoming part of the story of one of Canada’s most historic homes!

Happy Travels!

Jodie :)
